What’s On My Palette | Studio Log - Mar 30 - Apr 5

painted paper blog header with light blue background containing a painter's palette and brushes, but instead of paint blobs, its collage fruits

Here’s a little studio catch-up: What I’ve been creating, tweaking, and experimenting with...

This week was a good one! Full of Spring blooms and fresh projects now that I’m done with 75 Art.

Life has had so much sweetness lately that keeping up with my heART journal has become a weekly practice.

Also still working with violet + clover. This time, I’m working on another repeat pattern design, but with the help of the Cricut.

🎨What’s On My Palette is a studio series where I share the art supplies, creative workflow, and behind-the-scenes of my current illustration projects. Perfect for artists, stationery lovers, and creative entrepreneurs curious about process and materials.

Mixed media painted papers on vintage book pages for collage and surface design

One of my favorite art rituals —

Painting papers for future use in collages + heART journals.

Gentle art practice creating mixed media papers with paint and recycled materials

I used to rush this part… now it feels like a ritual. 🩷

Art journaling and collage process with painted paper and layered textures

March was SUCH a good one!

Putting the greatest hits in the heART journal has been such a fun weekend practice.

Cozy creative workspace with painted paper, collage tools, and slow art process

is a heART journal a junk journal?

Seems like the best of both art journals + junk journals. Either way, it’s my new favorite hobby!

Post 75 Art Challenge —

Well-used and LOVED! 🎨

DIY font creation setup with Calligraphr worksheet and mixed media art tools

I turned my handwriting into a font this week.

For FREE! ✨Go do it too!

creating a template with tracing paper for a collage violet illustration

Templates are essential to my collage process so I can work quickly enough that my busy brain doesn’t lose interest and never finish… 😅

tracing paper template of a wild violet plant with painted papers of green and purple all around the workspace

Learning to simplify shapes of detailed flowers for templates has really improved my collage workflow.

cozy creative desk space with painted paper collage wild violet motifs and mixed media materials

Templates make the glue + assembly part of the process much nicer than just cutting and hoping things fit together. (like I used to…)

Violet is having her moment in the studio right now. 💜

Not everything needs to be complicated to feel meaningful.

This little cluster of violets and clover came together with just a sketch of flowers in my yard, layers of color, quiet focus, and letting that be enough. 🍀💜

The more I simplify my processes, the more I actually finish my ideas—and that feels like a win. ✨

See you next week!

Xo,

Sarah
