What’s On My Palette | Studio Log - Feb 23 - Mar 1

This week was another great week in the studio! I consider myself lucky that we seem to be through the winter sads. When the house runs on sick time, the studio time sure suffers.

Spring is ringing in a new season, a new year, and new energy — which I’ve been spending at my desk…

✨What’s On My Palette is a recurring studio series where I share the art supplies, color palettes, and creative tools behind my current illustration projects. Perfect for artists, stationery lovers, and creative entrepreneurs curious about process and materials.

It’s been a while since I busted out my junk journal kit.

I haven’t used a junk journal style in a long time. Perhaps I’ll make more time for that once 75 Art is finished…

75 Art Challenge | Louisiana Love

This week saw a few more 75 Art drawings done. I’m a bit surprised it’s already nearing the end. Just a few weeks left!

I’ve been thinking about what to do with these after the challenge ends:

Pattern collection?

Gelli printed greeting cards?

Used in damn near every dish and part of the Holy Trinity. 🧅

I keep fussing over the limited color palette, but it’s just gonna have to do.

We called these kind “brown onions” when I was growing up in SE Louisiana — but I’ve never seen them anywhere else?

I love the texture of these water pastels.

Even if the only veg you’ve got is some onion and bell pepper — you can still make something delicious! ;)

Next week I’ll share the rest of the Holy Trinity (our girl, garlic + celery, of course!)

I’ve also been doing some portfolio work and have really enjoyed getting back to hand-cut paper after several weeks of digital illustration only.

Anyone else feel like they completely forget how to make ANYTHING when they’ve been away from their desk too long? 😅

Working on a painted paper collage.

That almost always means making templates first.

Working with templates has made my process so much faster because they lessen my decision fatigue and keep me more organized than using just a sketch for reference.

Then, it was on to the Edelweiss.

I adore collaging herbs and flowers!

I hit a flow state with all these petals and tbh, it’d been quite a while since I’ve had that feeling.

For a long time, I just couldn’t string together that much time for creating in one sitting. ;)
