Weekly Glimmers | A Week In Pictures: Sept 7 - 13

The change of seasons is really getting into swing here in East TN, even though the temps outside are still soaring! Mama is DONE with the heat! We’ve hardly seen rain in weeks, so things are feeling c r i s p y… and NOT in the delicious, autumnal sense that makes you want to light the candles and cozy up hygge-style.

And yet, I’ve been buzzing with excitement all week for everything this coming season has to offer. I’ve been working on some exciting creative projects lately that I can’t wait to share more of soon. We’re also celebrating Layla’s 6th birthday this month, and I could not be more stoked for all the little bits of magic this season is bringing with it.

At the same time though, this week, I found myself watching memorials and footage from 9/11, and thinking about the immediate aftermath. Not just the tragedy itself, but the ways artists, entertainers, writers, musicians, comedians, and storytellers responded. SNL. Sesame Street. TRL, etc… The cultural touchstones of the millenial generation that were themselves directly impacted by what happened, suddenly becoming places where people could gather, process, grieve, laugh, feel something, and remember that we were still connected to one another.

And it struck me all over again: where would we be without art?

Without the stories and songs and images and silly little TV shows and handmade things that give us a vehicle for connection and support… and that sometimes even manage to outlive the moment that created them?

Anyway… I’ve just been pondering art in the face of tragedy this week. And maybe that’s part of why noticing feels so important to me lately.

To notice the beauty is not to ignore the hard stuff.

Sometimes, I think, it’s how we remind ourselves that there is still something worth protecting.

So, here’s a peek at some of my recent glimmers: the little things helping me stay connected to my creativity…

…you know, it’s the weeks when I don’t take many photos that I know my mental health is struggling.

Because when I am noticing, it means I’m paying attention. I’m looking for the little bits of beauty and weirdness and color happening around me. I’m connected to my creativity.

And it’s all too easy for me to allow the heaviness of what we’re collectively going through to steal that from me sometimes. So I have to practice.

I have to practice noticing.

✨Weekly Glimmers is a photo series about noticing small moments of creativity, nervous system safety, and meaning while healing, parenting, and building a sustainable creative life.

Gorgeous garden inspiration from our weekend walkabouts in the next town over.

The vibes of the whole weekend were :chef’s kiss: ✨

Cluster of pink coneflowers blooming among green leaves and grasses in the late-summer garden.

Layla loves that the brightest pink flowers bloom in her birthday month. 💗

Yellow black-eyed Susans blooming among grasses and silvery-green foliage in the garden.

I can’t resist a garden that’s left to be so wonderfully wild.

Dew-covered spiderweb stretched between leaves of a pepper plant, with ripening peppers visible in the background.

We finally had ONE good gloomy [false] fall day this weekend that covered everything is a thick, cool mist. I love looking at all the jeweled spiderwebs. 💎

Bright red-orange tithonia covered in tiny droplets of morning dew among green leaves.

for future reference : that orange is 👌

Tall grasses covered in morning dew with delicate spiderwebs stretching across a misty field.

The way nature changes her colors when the seasons change is always a joy to notice.

I’ve been loving having so much studio time lately! Hand-building collection motifs for upcoming work.

It’s pumpkin time! 🎃

I also made some time to play with magazine collage too.
